Many TBP members know and love master trainer Luke Sharp for his epic strength and conditioning workouts! You only have to work out with him once to see that his passion for movement is contagious. We’re forever inspired by this busy husband and dad of two young boys. And to say we’re grateful he deflected from law to human movement studies is an understatement!

Luke loves changing the lives of his clients by encouraging positive health and fitness habits. He’s a huge advocate for increasing incidental movement, soaking up that beneficial sunlight, connecting with others and respecting our natural body clocks.

We chatted to Luke to find out more about what motivates him and his goals for the future.

Let’s meet coach Luke

Can you please tell us about your journey into the fitness industry?

I played sport through most of my childhood and fell in love with strength training when I was around 17. It gave me a sense of confidence that I could change my body, which I was always aware of as being tall and lanky.

After high school, I almost went into law but decided to have a year off, just working different jobs. Within that year, I found out you could go to university for something that involved exercise! So I ended up studying human movement studies and business.

After university, I worked as a personal trainer for a few years and then it was a natural progression to working with others.

What led you to become a trainer with TBP?

My fellow TBP coach Daniel invited me to do a session with him in front of the camera – which I was keen for, although apparently a complete rookie!

What is your personal wellness philosophy and how does it align with the values of TBP?

I try and move most days of the week without being obsessive over it. Outside of movement, sleep and real food nutrition, it’s about time to decompress, time with family, self-development and time spent outdoors.

I believe we’re our best when we’re connected to each other, the food we eat and nature, and when we move our bodies in different ways. So we lift heavy things, we do hard stuff, we use our body weight and we have some fun.

I like to have some structure with my training but also have room for intuition, variety and listening to my body. It’s a balancing act that I believe only experience can bring.

I believe my philosophy matches well with TBP because a big part of what I preach day in and day out is consistency, showing up for ourselves and just trying our personal best with what we have on the day. That could also be said as ‘progress over perfection’ 🙂

Looking ahead, what are your goals for the future?

My goals for the next few years are always split between career, health and personal / relationships. I’m very happy where I am in all aspects, so I just want to enjoy the day in, day out processes. Everything can always be better and there is a level of discontentment that can drive growth. But I’m in a place where the growth has to come from a positive, present space.

One of my key values is continuing to learn, so each day I try to devote a minimum of 10 to 15 minutes to reading self-development or professional development books. On top of this, I’m an avid podcast listener and will normally study one course per year in a professional area where I feel I’m lacking.
